Pool Remodeling Palos Verdes, CA - Bluff & Hillside Pool Renovation
Salt air, marine layer, and decades of UV catch up faster on Palos Verdes pools than anywhere inland. We remodel them — marine-grade equipment, modern finishes, Art Jury submittals for PVE, and landslide-zone footprint-only repair work in RPV where the moratorium applies.

PALOS VERDES POOL REMODEL
Renovate Your Palos Verdes Pool
Palos Verdes Peninsula pools live in some of the harshest salt-air conditions in California. Equipment fails fast on Lunada Bay blufftops and Portuguese Bend coastal lots. Plaster fades. Tile loses. Decks heave from settlement. The shells underneath are usually fine — and a remodel can transform an estate backyard for a fraction of a teardown rebuild.
Werth Builders has worked the peninsula since 1994. We prepare PVHA Art Jury packages for PVE remodels, RHCA submittals for Rolling Hills work, RPV Neighborhood Compatibility packages where applicable, and (importantly) handle footprint-only repair and replacement work in the RPV Landslide Moratorium area — the only construction permitted in the mapped slide zones since September 2025.
- Free on-site consultation with honest recommendations
- 3-D design renderings for full remodels
- PebbleTec, quartz, and plaster certified applicators
- All Palos Verdes city building authority permits and inspections handled
- Daily on-site supervision until water fill
WHAT WE REMODEL
Pool Remodel Services in Palos Verdes
From a single resurface to a complete backyard overhaul, here is what we work on every week in Palos Verdes.
Resurfacing & Replaster
Strip the old plaster, prep the shell, and apply your choice of PebbleTec, quartz, or premium plaster. Most resurfaces complete in 1-2 weeks.
Tile & Coping Replacement
Swap dated waterline tile for glass mosaic, natural stone, or modern porcelain. Replace cracked coping with travertine, paver, or bullnose.
Deck & Hardscape
Tear out cracked concrete and pour a new deck — travertine, pavers, stamped concrete, flagstone, or board-formed concrete that stays cool underfoot.
Add Water Features
Sheer descents, scuppers, deck jets, bubblers, fire bowls, and grottos that turn an ordinary pool into a backyard centerpiece.
Equipment Upgrades
Variable-speed pumps, salt systems, energy-efficient heaters, and smart automation. Title 20 compliant — and your monthly utility bill drops fast.
Add a Spillover Spa
Retrofit a custom gunite spa onto an existing pool — typically 4-8 weeks. We tie into existing plumbing or add dedicated equipment as needed.
POOL FINISHES
Choosing a New Interior Finish
The interior finish is the most visible part of any pool remodel — and the one that affects price and lifespan the most. Here is what Palos Verdes homeowners actually choose.
Standard White Plaster
Classic, clean, and the most affordable option. Lifespan around 7-12 years. Smooth feel, but stains and ages faster than other options. Best for budget-minded remodels.
Budget-FriendlyQuartz Aggregate (Diamond Brite, Hydrazzo)
Plaster blended with quartz for a subtle sparkle and 12-15 year lifespan. Better stain resistance than plain plaster, available in many colors.
Mid-RangePebbleTec, PebbleSheen, PebbleFina
Natural pebble aggregate finishes that last 15-20+ years. Beautiful natural look, excellent stain and chemical resistance. Texture options range from bold (PebbleTec) to refined (PebbleFina).
PremiumGlass Bead Finishes
Recycled glass beads create a luminous, mirror-like surface that shimmers in Palos Verdes sunlight. Smooth feel, excellent stain resistance, modern look. Great pairing for contemporary architecture.
LuxurySIGNS YOUR PALOS VERDES POOL NEEDS WORK
When to Remodel Your Palos Verdes Pool
Most Palos Verdes pools start showing real wear around the 10-15 year mark. Here is what to watch for.
Severe Salt-Air Equipment Replacement
Coastal-facing peninsula sites — Lunada Bay, Bluff Cove, Portuguese Bend, Abalone Cove — see equipment failure faster than anywhere we work. Generic 304 stainless rusts in 18-24 months. We replace with 316 marine-grade stainless, sacrificial-anode bonding on heaters and salt cells, sealed equipment enclosures, and corrosion-resistant fittings.
Landslide-Zone Footprint Repair (RPV)
In the RPV Landslide Moratorium area (in effect since September 2025), new construction is prohibited but existing pools may be replaced, restored, or repaired within their original footprint. We handle this work — coordinating with RPV Geology Submittal Portal, hydrostatic relief verification, and structural assessment to confirm the existing shell is repairable.
PVE Art Jury for Visible Remodels
Any visible exterior remodel work in PVE — new tile, coping, decking, equipment relocation, raised spa addition, cabanas, pergolas — triggers Art Jury review. We prepare submittal packages with the elevations, materials samples, and view-corridor analysis needed to clear on the first round.
RHCA Submittals (Rolling Hills)
Rolling Hills Community Association reviews all exterior changes inside the gated city. Submittals are required in addition to LA County Building & Safety review. We prepare RHCA-ready packages and coordinate guard-gate access for crews and deliveries.
Bluff-Edge Drainage Compliance
PVE Lunada Bay/Bluff Cove and RPV bluff-edge remodels need drainage that routes AWAY from the bluff face — never down it. Coastal Act and city guidance both require this. We re-engineer drainage as part of bluff-adjacent deck or hardscape work.
Honest Footprint-vs-Replacement Calls
Most peninsula pool shells from any era still have decades of life left. Exceptions are usually shell cracks from documented soil movement (rare outside slide-influenced areas) or hydrostatic damage from inadequate relief. We assess at the free consultation.

Almost always remodel. Peninsula gunite shells were typically engineered for the soil conditions and have decades of life left.
