COSTA MESA POOL BUILDERS

Custom Pool Builders Serving Costa Mesa Since 1994

Costa Mesa is a city of distinct neighborhoods and distinct construction realities. Eastside lots run 6,000-8,000 square feet with tight side-yard access — most pools here arrive by crane or conveyor. Mesa Verde sits on country-club-frontage lots averaging 8,000 sf where a negative-edge pool toward the fairway is a market feature. Westside is full of 1950s atomic-ranch lots being scraped for modern rebuilds. We build to whichever situation the property actually presents.

Werth Builders has worked Costa Mesa since 1994. We pull every City of Costa Mesa Building Safety permit, navigate Newport-Inglewood Fault adjacency engineering, design around mid-century lot constraints, and coordinate with the rare Mesa Verde and South Coast Metro HOAs that have design review. One contractor. One quote. One timeline.

  • Free on-site consultation with honest recommendations
  • 3-D design renderings and 30 still images per project
  • Fixed line-item pricing — no allowances or surprise change orders
  • All City of Costa Mesa permits and inspections handled
  • Daily on-site supervision until water fill

WHY HOMEOWNERS HIRE US IN COSTA MESA

We Know Costa Mesa Backyards

Building in Costa Mesa means understanding the soils, permitting, and climate of this specific city. Here is how that experience shows up on every project.

01

Eastside Tight-Lot Construction

Eastside Costa Mesa lots are wide enough for full pools but narrow enough that side-yard access is the limiting factor. We use crane lifts, conveyor concrete pumps, and small-equipment excavation to build full pools and spas without taking out fences or hedges. Most projects use a City Encroachment Permit for short street-staging windows.

02

Mesa Verde Golf-Frontage Pool Design

Mesa Verde lots fronting the country-club fairways need pool designs that respect view corridors and sometimes errant-ball protection. Negative-edge pools toward the fairway, raised spas with sheer descents, and integrated outdoor kitchens are popular. Werth Builders has built a number of these — they are some of the highest-impact backyards in OC.

03

Engineered for Costa Mesa Soils

The Newport-Inglewood Fault Zone runs adjacent to Costa Mesa and is rated capable of M6.0-7.4 events. We engineer pool shells with seismic-aware structural detailing — heavier rebar schedules, deeper bond beams, deck expansion joints — particularly for hillside-influenced lots and lower-elevation alluvial sites near the Santa Ana River.

04

Mid-Century Lot Knowledge

Costa Mesa has one of the largest mid-century single-family inventories in OC — College Park (1956-59), Mesa del Mar (early 1960s, ~850 homes), Halecrest, original Mesa Verde. Many of these lots never had a pool, or had pools removed decades ago. We know the typical 6,500-8,500 sf footprint, original utility runs, and where the surprise oak roots tend to live.

POOL BUILDER FAQs

Common Questions About Building Pools in Costa Mesa

Most custom Costa Mesa pool projects fall between $90,000 and $200,000+, depending on size, finish, water features, decking, and equipment. Mesa Verde golf-frontage builds and Eastside custom estate rebuilds tend to run higher, in the $150,000-$280,000 range. We provide free in-home consultations with detailed line-item pricing.

Most Costa Mesa custom pools take 10-16 weeks on site, plus 4-6 weeks of design, engineering, and City of Costa Mesa permitting before we break ground. Eastside tight-access projects can add a week of staging. Mesa Verde HOA design review (where applicable) adds 1-3 weeks.

Yes. Any pool over 24 inches deep, or any pool with electrical, plumbing, or gas, requires a City of Costa Mesa Building Safety permit. Costa Mesa has adopted the 2022 California Building Code, 2022 California Residential Code (Appendix AX — Swimming Pool Safety Act), and the 2021 International Swimming Pool & Spa Code. Per California HSC §115922, all new pools require at least 2 of 7 approved drowning-prevention safety features.

Costa Mesa sits on the Coastal Plain Orange County Groundwater Basin — Holocene and older alluvium with sand, gravel, silt, and clay. Most lots are stable for pool construction. Lower-elevation areas closer to the Santa Ana River floodplain and Upper Newport Bay edge have shallower groundwater and higher liquefaction susceptibility. We pull a geotechnical report on every project the City requires and engineer the shell accordingly.

Costa Mesa has lower HOA prevalence than Newport Beach, Irvine, or other master-planned cities. Most Eastside, Westside, Mesa del Mar, College Park, and Halecrest neighborhoods are non-HOA. HOAs cluster mostly in South Coast Metro condos and townhomes, some Mesa Verde sub-tracts, and newer infill. California Civil Code §4745 protects pool-safety features from HOA prohibition.

Most Costa Mesa lots are 5,500 to 8,500 square feet. We commonly build modern geometric pools 12x24 to 16x32 feet on Eastside, Westside, and mid-century tract lots, with attached spas and integrated outdoor kitchens. Mesa Verde 8,000+ sf lots support larger free-form pools, view designs, and full backyard packages.

Yes. Werth Builders is a fully licensed California pool contractor (CSLB #777-575, B-1 General + C-53 Swimming Pool), bonded, and insured for general liability and workers' compensation. We have been building and remodeling in Southern California since 1994. Always verify any contractor's license at cslb.ca.gov before signing.

We work with several specialty pool-and-backyard finance partners that offer competitive fixed-rate loans and HELOC alternatives. We can introduce you, but we never sell financing as part of our quote — there is no markup or kickback on financed projects.

"My husband and I used Werth Builders to create our backyard oasis and they definitely delivered. We absolutely love the way everything turned out and would recommend Peter and his company to anyone! I was very impressed with the fast response I always received when I contacted Peter or anyone working for him. They went above and beyond to make sure that we were happy each step of the way. They even pushed things through at the end to make sure our family that was visiting from out of town was able to enjoy it with us. Again, if you are looking for a contractor you should absolutely give Werth Builders a call."

"I contacted Peter Werth after seeing a patio roof he built for a friend. He was prompt and the consultation was very helpful. There were two challenges that were met in making and installing the new patio roof. The first one was how to build the roof around the chimney of the house and the second one was how to preserve the grapevines planted by my late husband. Both challenges were successfully met and the roof is great. Pete also gave me some advise on how to build up the patio floor to prevent flooding when it rains and could help me with that process in the future. I recommend Werth Builders to anyone needing any of their long list of services provided."

Coni C.

"We recently had our new pool constructed by Peter and his crew. Peter gave us the best price, he was very friendly and courteous. We had good communication with Peter throughout the entire process. His crew is very efficient and professional. The pool is awesome, well constructed and he added 3 spillway features. We are beyond pleased with the finished product and would recommend Werth Builders."

Noe T.

"I met with 5 different contractors and only received bids from 3 of them. One bid was exceptionally low, the other exceptionally high, and Werth Builders bid was right within the ballpark of what we expecting for the project's size. We put in a 600 sq. ft. patio (permitted) with lights and ceiling fans. We also laid down pavers and put drainage and cement on our side yard that used to be covered with weeds. Peter was great to work with. He was down to earth and approachable. We told him our vision and he made it happen. We didn't see any paper plans before they set to work and we were ok with that, but it did lead to a slightly bigger patio that we had originally planned for; still looked great. Peter responded to texts promptly and was able to accommodate our schedule. His crews were polite and showed up around 7am every morning when on site. Overall, solid experience."
